It Takes a Village

My name is Jeffrey and I have been living in the Rah Rah Community for more than five years. We have all become as family in that time. As a result of this bond, we have all helped one another as needs have arisen.

My son lives off grid in Patagonia, the Southern most part of Argentina.

He and his girlfriend have come to visit for the last two summers. Last summer, they did great work here building tiny houses and were a very welcome presence.

A few months ago, there was a raging forest fire in Epuyen, Argentina where they live. It wiped out a ton of houses in their area including theirs. They lost their house, shop, and two vehicles. My son evacuated an older neighbor whose house was already burning. By the time he returned to his house, it was nearly engulfed in flames. They barely escaped with their lives, driving on burning roads until their truck caught fire and died. At that point, they grabbed what they could from the truck and ran for their lives.

I quickly put the word out that I was looking for donations to help as much as possible.

I received a very generous donation from Rah Rah, and some additional donations from family. I was able to sell some equipment to augment the financial care package I was able to send within five days of the disaster.

With that money, my son was able to buy a used work truck to help him begin to rebuild their lives. I also created a GoFundMe page.

They will be returning this summer thanks to further generosity from the Community. Rah Rah paid for their airfare with the understanding that they’ll work off the debt.

It really does “take a village”.
